CO-PESCA 2 – Implementation of a co-management committee for the harvesting activity of stalked barnacle in Berlengas Marine Protected Area
Abstract/ Aim
The project aims to implement a co-management committee for the harvesting activity of stalked barnacle Pollicipes pollicipes harvesting in the Berlengas Marine Protected Area, classified by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. For the success of the initiative, the following actions were designed: (1) implementation and management of the co-management committee for barnackle harvesting; (2) monitoring of fishery and biological resources; (3) union and capacity building; (4) valorization of the resource – traceability study and nutritional profile of the resource; (5) reinforcement of current surveillance measures; (6) networking, communication of the project and dissemination of results. Co-pesca 2 project, expects to attain a full implementation and operationalization of the co-management committee and provide them with tools to allow its successful continuity post-project.
