SEAWEEDFEEDS – Macroalgae and animal welfare, supplementation of marine fish feed
Abstract/Aim
SeaWeedFeeds aims to develop a high-value aquaculture feed additive from macroalgae Gracilaria gracilis biomass, to promote welfare and reduce potential disease outbreak risks in farmed fish. Production protocols will be optimised. Bioactive compounds identification and selection and a thorough biochemical characterization and in vivo trials will be carried out in order to validate health conditions and animal welfare.
The aim of this project is to obtain a new feed additive that reduces potential health risks for aquaculture animals, which is one of the priorities listed in the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.
