BAMMBO
Abstract/Aim
The aim of the project “BAMMBO — Sustainable production of Biologically Active Molecules of Marine Based Origin” was to identify new bio-products of marine origin and develop sustainable rearing technologies for their production at an industrial scale. As a partner in this European project, the main tasks of MARE-IPLeiria were to select macroalgae with high potential for polyphenols production; to produce a stable and immortalized cell culture of the algae Fucus spiralis and Sphaerococcus coronopifolius; to assess antitumor, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of all compounds or extracts studied by the consortium; and to isolate and identify bacteria associated to macroalgae with high biotechnological potential.
