OCEANFIRE – Extinguishing Fire Blight with the Sea: Potential of the Invasive seaweed Asparagopsis armata against Erwinia amylovora

Abstract/Aim

The OCEANFIRE project aims to contribute to the development of new sustainable biological alternatives for combating fire blight in crops such as Rocha pear, Alcobaça apple, and quince, using an economically and environmentally sustainable approach. This approach could potentially create a model that can be applied to other crops. Specifically, the project will use the invasive macroalgae Asparagopsis armata as a source of bioactive compounds, contributing to the valorization of its biomass while simultaneously restoring affected ecosystems.
