ProTEoME – PROteomic Tools to assess Endocrine disruptiOn MEchanisms

This project aims to study the mechanisms underlying the toxicity of endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs), molecules that interfere with the synthesis, secretion, transport, action or elimination of hormones of an organism, affecting its homeostasis, reproduction, development, behavior, immunity, and neurology. Through an ecotoxicological approach and modern molecular methodologies, such as proteome analysis, the international and multidisciplinary team aims to elucidate the complexity of the molecular interactions that culminate in these individual and population effects, focusing on aquatic organisms (midge larvae) in order to assess the impact EDCs can cause in individuals, populations and ecosystems, contributing for an effective environmental risk assessment.
