VALOREJET – Use of discarded and low commercial value species: valuation of new products using innovative methodologies

Abstract/Aim
The VALOREJET project is promoted by Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL) and MARE – Marine and Environmental Sciences Center, ULisboa pole. It is financed by the Directorate General of Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services (DGRM) under the MAR 2020 Operational Programme. The project has as a partner the Polytechnic of Leiria, pole of Peniche and has the collaboration of the manufacturing companies Nigel and Omnifish and the support of the Cooperativa de Pesca Geral do Center (Opcentro). VALOREJET intends to evaluate the potential of three species with low commercial value (blue jack mackerel, black seabream, gurnards and two discarded species (boarfish, comber) whose biological ignorance is total, and to develop food products based on these species, with added value,  and strategies for the extension of shelf life of fresh fish derivates.
